This is a top quality set of knives and I've waited to review so I could test them thoroughly. They are well made, with a thickness all the way through the tang. The handles are comfortable, and after long periods of cutting, chopping, my hands do not hurt. The block is beautiful, and having read other reviews before my purchase, I understand some concerns about its size but the set I bought is a large set, a block size that is consistent with the number of knives is to be expected. Having had other top quality brands and been happy with them, I was reluctant to try something less well known but these impressed me, they're extremely sharp, and probably the sharpest knives I've ever owned. I've cut carrots so thin they were transparent, this surprised me and as ridiculous as this sounds, it made me curious if I could shave with them. I can. I can't say which knife is my favorite, but all of the knives have held their edge well, if the steel was sub par, this would have revealed itself right away. But even the bread knife continues to slice bread so thin it will surprise you. Others in the house use knives as tools, and even under these circumstances, the knives are holding their edge. I am very pleased and expect this set will continue to impress.
Do yourself a favor and just pull the trigger on this one! You won't regret it. I got mine on a black Friday deal and highly recommend you do the same, unless there is a flash deal or just sale on them. Plenty of amazing knives for any use (I bought the 23 piece set V2 series). Even to this day after 2 years of fairly heavy use, these are not only in mint condition but sharp as can be. Very little wear down on the blades - even constantly slicing through tendons or melon rinds frequently when butchering meat or prepping citrus. This set really does have a knife for everything you will most likely need to do in everyday use in the kitchen, shy of being a full-on restaurant! I will say this, watch a scour pad scrubber or dishwasher. I never have and never will use either on a nice knife set (even though they are dishwasher safe). This is typically how most sets eventually rust or have the finish scratched which in-turn will then lead to a possible defect in craftsmanship as well. Just take my advice and clean with care you will have a set that lasts easily 10 to 15 years. I did see some customers had a cracked wood block on arrival. I luckily had a perfect condition set. Each knife and even block were packaged with over-the-top protection, so I truly do wonder if it's your mail delivery/package delivery company abusing the item on the way??
UPDATE: 7 months later and I still haven't found one thing even close to undesirable about these knives. They hold an edge so well. The other thing that's been a pleasant surprise is how incredibly well the sharpening steel works. Just ordered a second one for our other place. Certainly not inexpensive, but the best cutlery value I've experienced. One disappointment is it seems they have discontinued the specific set I purchased - very few of the sets include that terrific steel. Too bad that you have to buy it separately. In any case - still a very STRONG 5 stars!Amazing. I'm a discerning knife owner and trained amateur chef, even have my own belt-sharpener. I've owned or currently own Korin, Shun, Wustof, Messermeister, Zwilling/Henckels, Mercer, Dexter - you name it. Needed to furnish our new vacation home and gave these a shot. They are without a doubt some of the best knives I've ever owned. Great balance. If you use a pinch grip, you'll love that there are no irritating sharp corners on the top of the knife where the spine meets the bolster. Incredibly sharp. Just love everything about them. Will post a follow-up to see how well/long the edge holds up and how well they sharpen. I also like that the knives sit sideways in their holder slots - edges don't have to even touch the wood. Initial impression was nothing short of fantastic. Would enthusiastically recommend to friends and family.
Holy macaroni are these sharp!!! I'm over 40, from a farm, so I have been cooking & cutting from my teens all the way until now. I know what I'm doing when it comes to normal everyday kitchen knives...but these things! Wowza! I cut myself on 3 fingers on the first project with them! 2 of the cuts were on the hand that was HOLDING the knife!!! - Don't ask me how I did that....I'm special that way. Uff. I think I was just so nervous with them that I lost my mind for a few minutes. These seem to be a wonderful set. I am very happy with them. I have never had so many options when it comes to knives. They send a cheat sheet with the package to tell you which knife goes with what food. KEEP IT...shove it in a cookbook or something. You'll want to know which knife does what in the future, and where it goes in the block so they're not just in there all willy nilly.I have never put them thru the dishwasher. I always wash by hand, right after I'm done using them, and put them back in the block. They're too sharp to be sitting in the sink & little fingers/hands reaching in unknowingly. We don't need a trip to the ER stating the kid grabbed a knife! Social services would LOVE that...I would definitely recommend this set. It's heavy, and seem to be good quality. Nice thick blades, yet nicely balanced. This set isn't for rookies though. You'll end up in the ER. BE CAREFUL!!!!
I waited a while before leaving a review. These knives are the most beautiful knives i have ever owned. They come super sharp and the grip is solid. Fits really well into the palm of my hand for the big ones. And sits really comfortable with the small ones. The steak knives are especially terrific - it makes cutting through meat like cutting through silk. Really wonderful clean cut.The blades themselvs are also an excellent quality and make that really satisfying ring sound when you remove them from the block. Which is really sturdy and the holes are just the perfect size. They all sit in the perfectly sized slit that the instructions point out for what knife. Scissors are also very sharp and a really great pair for everything. The sharpening tool keeps them nice and sharp and is really brilliant for general maintenance.I highly recommend this set of knives. I didnt post photos because they are DEAD ON, the same as the display photos. Do not hesitate to purchase these. They will NOT disappoint you.
The Cangshan V2 Series 1024128 knife set is delightful for anyone that enjoys cooking. When we opened the box it felt like we were professional chefs because of the elegance and craftsmanship. Each knife has a wrapping, tip cover, card cover and they’re in three separate boxes depending on size. It’s the best packing of a culinary product I’ve ever seen. Also, if you’ve been to a high-end restaurant lately, you’ll recall the heavy weight of the steak knives? You knew and felt the quality. This set has that same feel. This is the most comprehensive knife set I’ve found and the most diverse, from the German Steel to the gorgeous Acacia Block, from the variations of knives to the glorious steak set of eight. This is a must-have for those who love cooking and we purchased through an Amazon sale so the price-point was well-timed. It was delivered to Alaska USA early, too. Highly recommended.
Knife block is beautiful in my kitchen, extremely sharp.
I love these knives, they are unbelievably sharp (just ask my fingers). However, the block angle doesn't work for my cabinets and potentially yours. As shown in the picture, if you place the block against the backsplash (which you would do) be careful of the clearance from the uppers as the top row of two knives is inaccessible and the second tier of two knives only barely clear and I need to be conscious and slow every time I remove them. The bottom of my light rail is 16" above the countertop and 12" off the wall. Sure, I could pull the block off the wall an inch (and I tried this) but it looks ridiculous. And I could slide it out every time but.... I'm happy with the knives, but the block is a disappointment and negatively impacts the daily functionality. I'm really more lazy than happy and can't be bothered swapping them out especially when I only found out this was an issue after unwrapping 22 knives. I'm not sure if other knife blocks/manufacturers have a similar angle problem. The set I replaced did not have this problem.I also wish they offered a proper walnut colored block like the smaller (17pc) Cangshan set I bought for my parents. The shade of this one is weird and doesn't really match anything.Lastly, you will need to add your own thin rubber feet as this thing slides around like a MoFo being wood against granite. I'm surprised it doesn't come with them.
Love my knives! They are so useful and I can cut things up so quickly with the different blades
I have used a few high end knives in the past (ie. Wusthof) and I absolutely loved it. My Wusthof chef knife that I personally own has made cooking a lot more enjoyable, making it extremely easy to prep all the food before cooking. I was skeptical when I saw the reviews of this knife set and people comparing it to the likes of Wusthof. But, for the price and the amount of knives you receive, I figured why not. Amazon said "Free Returns" so if I tried it, didn't like it, I could return it for free. So again... why not try it?!Upon receiving the package, I was a bit annoyed by the packaging. First was the Amazon box. Then was a brown box made by Cangshan. Inside that box was another white box also made by Cangshan. Then inside that box, was 3 more small boxes where all the knives were in. Needless to say, the packaging alone pretty much filled up my recycle bin. But, that was well worth it - these knives are SO sharp and such high quality. If I had to pick something I don't like as much as Wusthof's would be the handle. They don't feel as high of a quality of plastic as the Wusthof, but... it's a handle. The real quality is in the blade, which matters most.2 of the knife handles that were in the box were damaged from the factory (deep gouges & pin holes that looks like somebody took a really small drill bit to), but I reached out to the email address on the card that they send with the knives and they had replaced them no questions asked. I received those replacements within a week. Customer service was 10/10 to say the least. These knives feel just as sharp as any Wusthof knife that I've ever used. It makes cutting up veggies, meat, bread... you name it, extremely easy and so much fun. My mom had came over for dinner one night and wanted to check out "these so called fancy knives". She's use to using the $29.99 Walmart special knives that she's used all her life. This was her first time using an actual high quality knife. Needless to say, I couldn't keep her off the cutting board in the kitchen. It took her cutting her finger nail (no blood, just scared her) before she said "these are so sharp, I don't like having to watch when I'm cutting. HA! Since then, she's asked me when I'm willing to cook dinner again, she said she wants to come back and use my knife set again since she had to go back home to her Walmart specials.I have faith that these knives will last a long time, and stay sharp a very long time. I will update this review if anything changes - if you're reading this and there's no update, that means that no news is good news. You gotta check these out!UPDATE: I've had these knives for just over 2 years, and the large 3 knife handles have cracked. These were great, comfortable knives, but they are just not holding up for very long. For the price, I'm quite disappointed in the quality of the craftsman ship. Reducing rating down to 2, because the knives that haven't cracked yet are still usable and holding up well (though I don't use the other knives nearly as often as the big bladed 3 knives).
